Brief History on How We Got Started

Larry McColm began his career in commercial real estate in the 1980s, directly out of college by joining Equitec Properties Company where he learned by hands-on doing. Eventually he became Vice President of the company and  Equitec’s real estate broker of record.

Equitec was later acquired in 1989 by PacifiCorp (now a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway) at which time Larry went on to form McColm Commercial Real Estate.  From those early days, Larry’s main goal was focused on growing a commercial realty services firm while assembling an investment portfolio of properties throughout the West, beginning with the first property acquired  in 1990 at 350 Main Street Pleasanton CA.

350 Main was a challenging retail property. Larry sold his car to ‘boot-strap’ the down payment and assume the existing loan. Larry quickly leased it up.  Solid leasing skills are crucial to success in the CRE industry.

     Since then Larry and the MCRE team have assembled a portfolio of 25 commercial properties in 5 western states – California, Nevada, Texas, Montana, and Utah. We believe in holding and managing real estate assets for long-term ownership, evidenced in the fact that the first property, our “flagship” 350 Main, is still an actively held part of the portfolio. 

Commercial real estate is a fulfilling career with a myriad of learning experiences. Its also fun and rewarding as we endeavor to serve our tenants each and every day.
